Starting the Daily OWN – Life After the Launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network

Growing up with Oprah as part of my life, I cannot tell you how sad it has been to think of her show ending after 25 years.  What was I going to do?  Now, I know.

On January 1st, around 1pm EST, like over a million others that day, I found OWN, the new Oprah Winfrey Network.  Brand new, with that squeaky clean smell and shine, I watched Oprah looking angel’esque as she talked directly to me…walking me through her new network and what I had to look forward to.  After 6 hours or more of watching…I realized two wonderful things – I LOVED what I was seeing and my life was clearly over, because I was going to be watching this channel more hours than I had.  But I felt GOOD.  I was curious and I was full with feeling whole and balanced.  On January 1st, this wasn’t a problem.  Insert regular life.  What was I to do?

So, this isn’t a surprise.  I mean, Oprah has changed my life before…and this time, it’s no different.  Something kept me moving in this direction…I kept talking about the shows, the message, the concept of the new network.  The decision to start The Daily OWN blog came fast…by January 2nd or 3rd.  Getting it started required a bigger push down that mountain which came from my partner in this endeavor, my sister.

In this blog, we are here to represent the viewer’s voice and the heart of the OWN audience.  We will bring you some of the OWN show recaps and our OWN reflections, as well as the highlights and notes that you might have missed.  Over time, we hope to add some fun weekly columns and start some good discussions.

We hope you join us in this OWN journey…and a whole new world of network TV.   Welcome to The Daily OWN.

  1. I was scanning something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read originally. I am still reflecting over the various points of view, but I’m leaning heavily toward yours. And regardless, that’s what is so super about modern democracy and the marketplace of ideas online.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I have to tell you, with a weekend full of world chaos and my TV tuned to CNN for much of it, it’s been great to turn to the OWN network to find something else…entertainment that gives me something else to talk about. For instance, on the GK show….just her mentioning Nelson Mandela brought me back 20 years and opened up a whole conversation over dinner last night. It may just be where I am at right now, but I certainly find myself choosing to be happier and more positive in the last 30 days. Is it OWN? I’m not sure….but either way, I’ve been entertained and in a better mood. I’ll take it! 🙂

  2. I Totally Agree that Oprah has done it again!! Something Wonderful is happening to my life! I am so excited about the shows on OWN. I am happy that Oprah will continue to be a part of my life and my families life too. I think that it is great that the OWN shows are not just tailored to women. As a mother of a teenage son, the topics, ideas, discoveries and positive messages we are finding on OWN are perfect. The message of love and being your best true self is a good message for everyone, men, women and children alike!
