As the final days countdown, I found a link on Oprah.com that asked, “What I Learned From A Guest Or The Show.” Here is my response.
While there have been so many guests, I feel like all of my lessons have come from Oprah. I have learned this…
- Dream BIG!…and believe it can come true…because it can!
- There is always someone out there with bigger problems…or with a bigger heart. Learn from them both.
- Being healthy has less to do with my weight and everything to do with my attitude.
- Face adversity and life’s challenges the best that you can…and try to see the sun shining through the cloudy skies.
- Feeling deeply is a gift. Appreciate that you have it.
- Embrace life and be ready to let it embrace you.
- Be yourself and be happy you are you.
- Inner beauty shines bright on the outside if you let it and if you look for it, you will see it.
- You have power…you just may not always recognize it.
- Strength comes from the darkest of places…and usually when you think you are at your weakest point.
- People care more than you think.
- The human spirit can survive anything if you just believe.
- And the biggest lesson that I have learned from Oprah is that my capacity to love and grow and be a better human being is endless.
This may not be the “be on the show” response that you were looking for…but it’s the most heartfelt and honest response that I have to this question. There is not one guest…it is a collection of all of Oprah’s guests…the ones that made me laugh, made me cry, made me angry and made me hopeful. And it is Oprah’s response to them…and her connection with me. It is through her that I have learned all of these lessons. This 25 year class that I have been a part of has been instrumental in my life…and has helped me become who I am today. I will miss the Oprah Show…but she has taught me well and I know that she has confidence in myself and all of the Oprah Show viewers that we are ready…to go out and be teachers ourselves.
Dear Paula, even as an Ultimate fan (no I did not go to Australia, however, ask anyone I know and I am an ultimate Oprah fan) I could not have said it better myself. I love how you organized your thoughts in this manner. As a fan of TOWS I have been to her show 17 times. My husband says, ” isn’t that enough?” No! I’ve just got to get there during this farewell season. Life will truly never be the same after May 25th. Yes, it will go on and we will all be fine, but a little something from my daily routine will be missing. I wrote an article for my local paper regarding the affect TOWS has had on me. I’m glad you did the same. Take care, the countdown is on 🙁 P.S. I called her my teacher in my article too. How funny!
