This episode took me back almost 10 years in a matter of moments…looking into miracles of the most heart-wrenching tragedy our country has ever experienced. Events that brought everyone to a stand-still and made us question everything in our own lives…..9/11.
In this week’s episode, Dr. V and Randall headed to New York to talk to survivors of stairwell B in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Josephine Harris started her work day on the 73rd floor and once the floor starting shaking her only escape was stairwell B. Moments after Mrs. Harris started to head down the stairwell, fire Captain of Ladder Co 6, John Jonas, started up the burning building….focused on his job of search and rescue that day. He was doing a head count for his team, when the South Tower collapsed. No longer safe, they knew it was time to get out. Headed down the same stairwell as Mrs. Harris, their paths finally cross around the 20th floor. Knowing every second counted, the Captain kept everyone moving. Suddenly the tower they were in…..started to crumble down around them. They were trapped in the rubble for 3 hours, but they were alive! The firefighters saved Mrs. Harris….and in turn Mrs. Harris saved them. Josephine feels she had been watched over and who can argue that? I mean what an incredible story. The Captain had a harder time….why would God be there for them and not all the others?
The miracle detectives tried to uncover more information and called in a structural engineer who points out that stairwell B was in the center of the building. This area had more reinforcements due to the center elevators. He noted the area they were found in was the only survivable area. Was this divine intervention or just the right place at the right time?
Personally…after hearing from the structural engineer, I believe the group was just in the right place at the right time. They found a pocket for survival. If the timing had been a little off, it may have been a different group of people telling the same amazing story. God would not choose a small amount of people to survive when so many other worthy people died, right? Everyone is important in God’s eyes.
So…were they blessed or simply lucky?
