You know it’s Monday when…things just happen. We are off to a NEW week with Gayle…but she came into work and her phone lines weren’t working. How was she going to talk to her favorite listeners? Well, crisis averted…phones up…but favorite daughter Kirby has her own crisis…read on.
About Aretha’s 69th Birthday party – Gayle got the invite to Aretha Franklin’s 69th birthday party. Not a royal wedding, but a royal birthday definitely. Gayle captured FLIPCAM footage and shared it…she’s getting better. Happy birthday Aretha!
About Oprah and Twitter – Oprah was on a Tweet-a-Thon last night and sent out videos and tweets all weekend long. It was wonderful! Oprah sent out video messages from her deck, her kitchen, while working out (although Gayle wants to know WHO works out in dangly earrings?), with our favorite special guest Stedman AND a thanks after the #OprahLiveTweet. Just a special DailyOWN mommy hug to Gayle for re-tweeting a tweet and helping to get Oprah trending. You too Nate! You came through for us! Anyway, Gayle shows a couple of Oprah’s videos….”tweeple”? That was funny!
About the most influential Twitterer – Chad Ochocinco – reality TV and NFL player is the most influential person on Twitter. “It’s all based on how many times your name is mentioned or re-tweeted,” Gayle tells us. Ok, that does it. I need a number name. Ochocinco is taken. How about Ochoseis?
About the 7 NY State Lottery Winners – Lucky number 7…to split the mega-million jackpot. Each get a cool $20 million. Gayle plays…. but like the rest of us…nothin.
About Gayle’s favorite daughter Kirby – Kirby’s not speaking with Gayle today because mom wouldn’t let her leave alone late at night, at midnight, because “it’s just not safe.” Mamma Gayle, you are right…it’s just not worth it. C’mon Kirby…deep down, you know there is a little chance she’s right. Just go with it. Also, Gayle thinks that Kirby is a little peeved about mom pressuring her to get a LAN line. Maybe she is…but really, is that such a big deal? I mean…yes, it’s nice to have one….I guess….but I’m not sure that it’s that big a deal anymore…Gayle, you can text, tweet, cell, email….friend’s email….you are probably covered…but love you for being a loving mom. It comes from a good place, Kirby. Just go with it….and each of you, go with your gut. Kirby, it’s not worth making mom mad.
About the President @7:30pm EST tonight – Our President is keeping us informed – more than most presidents in recent years – about what is going on in Libya, our strategy, and more. It’s our country…consider it an all employee company meeting….we need to be there. Plus Gayle’s taking notes…so, she’ll fill us in too…
About Sunday’s Meet the Press exchange – “Is Libya part of our vital interest,” is the question. Robert Gates answered. But Hillary Clinton jumped in and clarified. Today, headlines – Hillary made a power play? Not even. You are right, Gayle. She just made sure the point was clear. She knows how important it is to present the whole situation. Can’t people remember….before we had the UN get involved in Libya, everyone was outraged about what was happening to the people in the country. So, we step up with others in the world and people are outraged? You can’t win!
About Geraldine Ferraro’s passing – First woman to run for VP…and political pioneer. Gayle shows a clip between her and VP candidate Bush…holding her own. Geraldine Ferraro helped move women forward…which was wonderful to see for us little girls at the time. It opened up a whole new world.
About Anna Deavere Smith – Playright, Actor, Author, and so much more….Anna is inspiring and exhausting all at once. How does she do it all?! Anna is on Nurse Jackie on Showtime and they are enjoying their 3rd season, kicking off tonight. “How do you describe your character on Nurse Jackie?” Gayle asks. Anna tells her, “I’m in charge, but nobody pays attention to me…Gloria is funnier this season…” In her other endeavors, her latest play is a one woman show called, “Let me down easy,” and it’s a play about the human side of the story on healthcare. It’s about real people and real people’s lives. Anna gives us a hint of what the show is about…and it sounds like it’s storytelling greatness. As Gayle sings her praises, Anna says she marvels at Gayle’s time management…and Gayle says, “When you like what you do, you figure out a way to do it….”
About Job Satisfaction – Do you like your job? Many say no. Gayle is asking if you are one of those who don’t? Just like it’s a buyer’s market, it feels like it’s a business market…it’s not about the people. We have no leverage…we are lucky to have jobs…if you actually have one. “It all depends on if you feel appreciated,” Gayle comments. Yes, you are right, Gayle. So…I love my job…if you count this blog a job. I just wish it came with some perks…like a paycheck…maybe some healthcare…or free coffee….
About AFLAC’s Job Opportunity – They need a quacker…a new AFLAC duck voice. Gayle’s doing a great impression but she’s already got a gig….oh, and they need a bi-lingual quacker. I guess AFLAC sounds differnt if you say it in Spanish. See your local papers…maybe they are coming to your city. Start practicing…
About Mark Halperin, Political Analyst of NBC and Time Magazine – “For the President, this is an open question. It could be a blip…or it could be his 9/11. We just don’t know yet,” Mark says. “He needs to give the people a sense of why we are putting people’s lives at risk…” Our interest, our values, and our capability. These are the areas that Mark says the President needs to explain tonight and say; we have a huge stake in the democracy movement. The Egyptian model works great – about the people saying we need change…and the people moving toward democracy…with little US involvement. “The President promised the American people that the handover to NATO would happen quickly, and it did,” Mark points out. And what is his take on the Meet the Press story – Mark says he didn’t see it as Hillary bigfooting Robert Gates. “They have a great relationship…those 2 get along so well and love doing those tag team interviews together,” Mark tells us. So everyone, chill out.
Tomorrow, we’ll compare notes with Gayle on the President’s speech. As for today, take the time and mark your calendars: Susan Lucci is on Wednesday and Cheryl Burke in on Thursday. Otherwise, pick up the phone…and make sure it’s still working…then, call your mom.
