Speeding into the weekend, Gayle is off to a fast start today!
About Texas 85MPH – What? Did you know that Texas wants to raise the speed limit to 85mph. Yikes! State lawmakers have what? Approved this? Seriously, Texas?
About Gloria James – Arrested in Florida for ‘slapping a valet.’ Lebron James’ mother is in a little hot water….or really, a lot of hot water. What was she thinking? He didn’t get the car fast enough. Oh…Gloria….
About @BronxZoosCobra – Finally, the snake…she has a lovely new name. The final vote on the snake’s name….MIA(Missing in Action.) But as the last tweet noted….in her heart, she will always be Mrs. Justin Bieber.
About the school shooting in Brazil – Awful and heartbreaking that someone went into an elementary school and began shooting. As Gayle was watching the coverage, she heard a police office say, “It’s like what they do in America when they walk in a building and start shooting…” Lessons everywhere it seems. Gayle takes note that it’s important to pay attention to what others think of us…that should tell us something…at least give us another perspective. To all who were wondering about the U.S…we all do not carry guns or most of us are lucky enough to have ever been near a building where someone has come in and started shooting.
About the Government Shutdown – Here’s another one to put in the Charlie Sheen #NotWinning column. Can’t we all just get it done?! Gayle reminds us, the members of Congress will get paid during the shutdown. But if they weren’t getting their $170+ salary…well, maybe that would light a fire. We’ve got to get it together … 800,000 non-essential workers will be unpaid and out of jobs while they figure this out… what? No museums, no national parks, no courts, no solution. Gayle believes at the last minute, somebody will come through and they will work it out. Oh, Gayle….we hope so.
About Caroline Kennedy’s New Book – “She Walks in Beauty…a Woman’s Journey through Poems” is Caroline’s new book and it looks wonderful. Poetry seems like a gift that has been passed on to many members of Caroline’s family…and now she is passing some this way. “I grew up with poetry as part of my life. A poem was a present for Mother’s Day or a birthday,” she tells us. “Poems are a great way of gathering your experiences…” and really, sharing them with the world. “Find your authentic voice,” Caroline says of young kids… “and find out who you want to be.”
On a bit more personal note, Gayle mentions a new Kennedy book is out from someone from the “inner circle.” Gayle talks about her own strong code about being in an inner circle and not betraying that confidence by talking about personal things. She asks Caroline what she thinks…as the Kennedy’s have seen their share of these situations. “People do lots of different things for lots of different reasons,” Caroline says. Now, that is understanding…and maybe a little forgiveness….all rolled up into one sentence.
About Crying at Work – Gayle says she’d never do it. She has two rules for work. Never cry at work and never do #2 at work. She just won’t do it. There may be exceptions…but just don’t break down because you just can’t handle it. It will change how people see you. Well, this may border on TMI…I’m pretty sure it does…but Gayle felt we needed to know…so, thanks GK.
About Anne Kreamer’s new book, It’s Always Personal – Anne talks tears at the office…. When women cry at work, they feel ashamed…and the outcome, it may change how people see you. When men cry at work, they feel refreshed. Now, there is all of this social pressure for women…to be strong. Crying at work…just don’t do it. Here’s my question…if you have a job that makes you cry…and not in a sympathetic way but in a “this is too stressful or you are mean to me” way…well, then maybe it’s time to look for another job. The tears just could be that whisper that Oprah talks about listening to…
Go. Have a great Friday. Be happy. Don’t cry….Gayle will be back…
