Good Morning Gayle! Gayle starts out today with a BIG Happy Birthday to Dr. Maya Angelou. Over the weekend, Oprah and Gayle surprised Maya Angelou in North Carolina at the very last moment….and just dropped by!
About Maya Angelou – As they were sitting there for Maya’s birthday, Gayle was taking notes on her notepad…as was Oprah on her IPad. “I also have decided many years ago that I would not rely on any calendars to tell me what I’m suppose to be and how I’m suppose to feel,” Dr. Angelou shares on Gayle’s CAM. “Don’t encourage the disappearance of any of your delights, any of your appetites….that is sensual appetite, sexual appetite, social appetite…go out and go among people and be cheerful and clever and allow people to be clever with you.” Happy Birthday Maya Angelou! What wonderful gifts of knowledge that she offers…just open your arms and your heart to make sure you can soak it all up! She has a new book out, “Great Food All Day Long – Cook Splendidly and Eat Smart,” by Dr. Maya Angelou. I’ve got to add that to my wish list…how wonderful…
About the President launching his re-election bid for 2012 – It begins with us…and they are off….
About Basketball: Butler vs. UCONN – Tonight’s the night. The Final Four has been narrowed down to the Final Two. After tonight…we’ll have a winner. Who’s your pick?
About Southwest Airlines – Gayle pays attention to all stories…and the Phoenix to Sacramento flight on Southwest Airlines literally started coming apart and has Gayle even more afraid to fly! The roof started ripping off and the plane started coming apart – like at a bad seem. Brenda Reese, a passenger on that plane, talked with Gayle and said, “I saw some people passing out. There was a guy in front of me and to the right that looked like he was passing out but…having a seizure at the same time. The worst one Gayle…was there was a mom…who was screaming and out of her oxygen because her child had passed out.” The hole was 5 feet wide and at 36,000 feet. Brenda mentions you only have seconds to get on your oxygen masks – 2 seconds to 2 minutes – depending on the situation – so you can start breathing. A very serious situation and Southwest Airlines is inspecting their fleet…and have found cracks in 3 other planes. “It was not known in the industry….that this was an area that those lapjoints should be inspected,” says an investigator. Scary stuff….
About the Looming Government Shutdown – Gayle tells them to “get it together and work this out….shame on everybody. Two grownup sides cannot figure out a way to prevent us from going into a government shutdown?” I second that. Do your job people. This is unacceptable. Where’s Donald Trump?…”YOU’RE FIRED”…oh wait, here he is…
About Celebrity Apprentice – Yesterday…Meatloaf had a meltdown…not his best self can be seen as he come apart at his own seems. And what about, you may ask, has his so crazy angry? Somebody stole his paints and brushes. But wait…nobody stole them. They were in a bag…under the table. So kindergarten…so crazy…Go to the corner Meat – and don’t come out until you have something nice to say.
About Dr. Oz – Gayle’s speed dial doctor…and America’s doctor. “What’s your work life balance like? Does it annoy you that your friends call? ” Gayle asks. “It takes so little time to answer the question…,” Dr. Oz says. “Hearing and understanding is therapy in itself.” The only time the doctor tries to have a little privacy…is when he’s with his kids. Leave him alone if he’s with family, people. Otherwise, he’s here to help.
So…the best time to vacuum is 4pm, says Dr. Oz. If you vacuum at 4pm, the dust has time to settle before bedtime. For breakfast, eat within an hour of waking up. It changes your metabolism for the rest of your day. What about walnuts? Dr. Oz says walnuts are high in Omega-3. “60% of our brain is Omega-3 fats. If you want to stay sharp…avoid loosing your memory…eat walnuts.” If you don’t like the taste of walnuts, soak your nuts. They’ll become chewy and will loose their bitterness…
Tips of 5 wrong turns you can take? – one topic of discussion is supplements. Supplements taken at the wrong dose…like vitamin A & E can be too much of a good thing. Taking too much can pre-dispose you to cancer. Supplements cannot take the place of fresh veggies…though! Eat your peas and carrots people! Season number 2….can’t believe Dr. Oz has only been on for 2 seasons. Love his show!
About Chris Rock’s new Broadway play…on infidelity – Infidelity is whatever you choose it to be…whatever your definition is, that is what it is. But in Chris Rock’s Broadway play…(it’s called, “The MotherF****** with the Hat”)…and it’s not all jokes. “It’s so real,” Gayle says. Chris auditioned for the play…a real audition… “I wanted it bad,” Chris says. “The play is the star.” I wished I was closer to NYC to see it…it sounds wonderful.
About Kidnapped by the Kids – New on OWN…Gayle says she’s only seen one episode, but she’s smitten! Me too…I love this show! Tonight’s the series premier and it’s all about the Morris family. Galye talks to the family and asks, “How has it changed your lives?” “We spend more time together…” and his daughter reports, they’ve been able to keep it up! Can’t wait to see the show and blog about it right here @ www.thedailyown.com.
Go onto your day….and make the most of it. Have some cake for Dr. Maya Angelou….
