The first episode this weekend was all about ten year-old Tia and her family. Each year the family celebrates Tia’s adoption day…grateful for their family. Their family has been going through some hard times yet still they find time to remain active in their community. So when the special day came, Tiffany wanted to do something extra-special for them.
It was touching to think that Tiffany was willing to eat the cost of the party so that Tia could spend the day as a princess/diva -priva! However her parlettes were not happy about the concept of working for free. With reluctant and quiet yeses, Tiffany moved on to her sister. “You know I don’t work for free” Terra told her sister. As a mom with small children, it was hard for her to make the sacrifice. The Pink Pastry Parlor is Tiffany’s dream…not necessarily Terra’s. She pulled out all the emotional sister baggage trying to get her sister to volunteer. I was thinking….why not barter with her? Tiffany should have offered to watch her kids for a night or help her complete a project on her list. Instead, Tiffany caved and told her sister she would pay her. In sister fashion, the conversation wasn’t a quiet one. Parlettes overheard causing a mutiny! They were furious.
Being called on the floor by her own employees, Tiffany walked into an angry group of “volunteers” who suddenly found the strength to stand up for themselves. Admitting it wasn’t fair; Tiffany decided to pay them all. It was the right thing to do. However with all the heart, love and money Tiffany was throwing into this party, the drama still wasn’t over. Her oven suddenly wasn’t working. Fortunately they got the oven online and the priva cupcakes made it to the party. Arriving in a pink hummer limo, the girls began their day of pampering and fun….a perfect was to celebrate Tia’s loving family. Her mom gave a speech and it was so sweet, except for the part where she told her daughter that she came from nothing and was making something out of herself. However I am certain is was all with the best of intention and the love was obvious. Tia was truly a beautiful Priva!
The second episode focused on Denim, a serious 8 year old Diva. It took a lot to impress this little girl. When the mom suggested a pajama sorority party, Demin was less than enthusiastic. As Tiffany mentioned candy and food, Denim noted her preference …a chocolate and strawberry buffet. She did perk up as they discussed pranks to pull on the one who was first to fall asleep. Oh my, it was clear this was going to be interesting especially since it was an overnight party. Let me interject – as someone who has thrown multiple overnighters with anywhere from 30 to 50 kids, overnighters are ROUGH. No one will be sleeping!
As she approached her sister, things got tense. Terra has children and a family. Asking her to spend the night away from home isn’t the same as a single Tiffany sacrificing. It was a lot to ask. Pushing her sister for an answer, Terra drew a line but agreed.
Starting the party with a marching band and steppers, a personal tribute was played out to the birthday girl who looked as if she was somewhere else. When the surprise of a puppy was handed to her, she turned to her mom and said “he’s dirty”. This wasn’t going well. She was bored from the beginning. So the crew tried to pump up the energy. Hair and makeup was in order. Complaining about the water temperature and an overall Diva’tude, I was beginning to think this girl was seriously spoiled. Finally in front of the photo booth, a smile was seen. By 10PM the kids were running wild and Denim and her crew had pinned a parlette down with pink boxing gloves. First mistake, that girl NEVER should have gotten boxing gloves!
By midnight, Terra had it. She was tired and headed off to bed. Unfortunately Denim and her gang of girls found her, put her hand in water, put frosting on her face and even put a cupcake in her pants. She was PISSED. I found it odd that the cameras knew what the kids were up to but the parlettes and Tiffany were clueless. Followed by laughing girls, Terra hunted down her sister and turned in her pink pastry parlor apron. She was done and on her way out the door. At 2AM, her boyfriend Jermaine showed up with food and a helping hand. What a guy! Unfortunately I think it will take a long time before Terra steps back into the parlor. I don’t really blame her!
