As a soul sister I pretty much know that if Rosie is “highly recommending” something I most likely will love it. Beginning her monologue about an obsession over a show on Showtime and touting that it was “the best show on TV”, I found my interest peeked. I had never heard of the show Shameless…like many others I am certain. As Rosie mentioned the characters played by William H. Macy and Joan Cusack, I began to wonder how this show got past me.
From what I got, the show is based around an alcoholic man whose children do the best they can to cope with his alcoholism and how it impacts their lives. The adorable Emmy Rossum graced the stage to tell stories of how she got her start while throwing accolades to her co-stars and shared why she was drawn to her character, Fiona.
The next character to join the stage was Frank played by William H. Macy. The clip of his portrayal of an unapologetic drunk was intense. That alone sold me. He is such a remarkable actor. During the interview, he revealed he was once Joan Cusack’s babysitter and even did some carpentry work…in real life. Who knew? Soon after Jeremy Allen White, aka Lip, fused with the others on the stage sharing his gratefulness for his high school performing arts teacher who sent him out on open auditions, auditioning with William H. Macy and the roll of a lifetime. When Rosie asked them about siblings, it was surprising to hear that many of them didn’t have siblings. You’d never know it.
After a few more clips, most of the cast filled the stage. Wonderful stories about on-set chemistry. The cast then opened the mic to answer questions from “Shamless” fans. We even get to hear some tunes from Karen, Laura Wiggins. Take a look!
The entire audience was given a gift from Warner Bros….Season 1 of Shameless on DVD. Very cool! As a viewer I have to say…thank you Rosie for bringing this incredible cast on the show and opening our eyes to a whole new show! Here is link to catch a FREE episode from Showtime. Until then enjoy the preview for Season 2 which starts January 8th – note…this is NOT for kids!
