OWN viewers got their first holiday gift of the season from the presidents of the Oprah Winfrey Network, Sheri Salata and Erik Logan. It didn’t come wrapped in shiny paper or have some elaborate red bow, but it was delivered with a few comforting words.
Thuesday they announced that OWN has picked up 8 additional episodes of the inspiring docu-series “Our America with Lisa Ling” rounding out the second season with 16 episodes. The additional episodes will include in-depth looks at “pageant kids, the life of swingers, the plight of Native Americans, and the wrongfully accused.” The episodes are now in production and set to air this spring.
BUT the gift gets even better! They will also be extending the new docu-series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” by 10 episodes allowing a total of 18 episodes for the premiere season. They will begin producing them in December and they will also air in spring.
“Lisa fully immerses herself in every topic she covers and challenges us to think differently. Along with her team, she’s created story-telling perfection,” said Salata. “We’ve all fallen in love with the Montgomery family. You never know what they’ll do or say next. We couldn’t be more pleased viewers are tuning in to enjoy all the fun.”
She is totally right! As the lucky sister who gets to cover both of these docu-series, I am ecstatic. Lisa’s thoughtful and fair reporting has always been a huge draw for me. Each week, she shows us a different snapshot of the world we live in…and I always walk away better for it. As for Sweetie Pie’s, I have found myself sucked into the Montgomery’s world…excited about the twists and turns of each week. Most importantly it shows a family who loves each other and is willing to put up with all sorts of antics because they ARE family. Every family has a Charles, a Tim, and a Robbie. If you are lucky, you even have a pops. Their realness is just so damn loveable!
“The audience is finding and responding to these programs, and the ratings continue to build, which is a great testament to both shows,” said Logan.
Not only is it a great testament to the shows, but it is a great testament to the whole OWN team. Life changing TV that continues to build our spirit….one lesson at a time. What a gift!
I love Welcome to Sweetie Pies. Tonight’s episode made me cry when Little Charles got upset after finding out that Robbie suspended him from the restaurant for a week. Normally Charles is such a little wise acre, but it made me love him even more when he cried, showing how upsetting the suspension was for him.
It was of great courage for his mom to be the one to bare the wakeup call for Charles. As Auntie foresaw that it needed to be done by his mom. And it worked out for the good. We all need wakeup calls for improvement.
