[…] Rosie then brought on 25 year old US Marine, Sgt. Shamar Thomas who recently lit up the internet with his Occupy Wall Street Movement reality check on YouTube. Reminding us all of the power of one, Shamar questioned the police brutality that was occurring within the peaceful protest. Chants of “You’re here to protect us. Protect us” and “my whole family protected this country” noting “this is not a war” so there was no need for riot gear. He went on to tell how in Iraq men were pelted with rocks yet they stood firm. They were there to win the hearts of the people. I think that is lost at times in our country. The struggle for power is all that seems to matter. By the end of the YouTube video, my eyes began to well up. It was so ironic. We fight wars where we ask our men and women to risk their lives each moment and then our own system struggles with the rights we are given. I feel for everyone. The police officers are just doing what they are told. Having large numbers of people in the streets does have a potential for violence and crime, the line is not always clear. I can’t imagine the stress of being one of a few officers surrounded by hundreds of people…that has to be stressful for them. I just wish we would all remember that we are neighbors first. Check out the clips of him on Rosie and YouTube. […]
