Call me crazy, but this week I’m going to start reading my 13-year-old nephew the British version of the Harry Potter series. When he as seven, he would beg to come over and spend time with me, reading in my most famous Dumbledore and Hermione voice until he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Over the years, as we made it through book after book, with each book he grew a little taller. I noticed because he would rest his head on my shoulder, reading over my shoulder as I changed my voice for each character and pleading with me for just one more chapter into the dark night, falling in love with Harry Potter and his mysterious world and the experience. Now, 13 and on his way into high school, it feels like my last chance to do this with him…so I’m offering a twist – the British version and this experience is going to be my opportunity. My opportunity to spend more time with him while I’m still kinda cool and while he still loves to share this with me…his favorite aunt….the one who read to him and taught him to not fear big books with lots of pages but to love them even more…because that was our thing…that was our experience…and it was full of love.
So, today be reminded to see the opportunity for anything in each experience that comes into your life. Take the time. You just might be surprised at what you see…and what it might do to your life and where it might lead you…maybe even to a magical wizard world.
Anything can happen in our lives if we do not stop fighting and do not despair. A strong will and opportunity that comes should be best utilized because the opportunity did not come a second time.
