  1. I love this show! It is so meaningful; I find Tatum and Ryan so compelling!
I too come from a very painful, wounding childhood that is somehow always lurking in my life. Just as promised by the O’Neals, in the first episode I find it touching and inspiring to see their struggle to re-unite as father and daughter. (My parents are dead).

What is so striking and illumunating to me is that Ryan treats Tatum like a person that is not his just but rather a woman.girl who broke HIS heart.

My mother was the same. She never recognized that I was a CHILD and could not be judged by adult standards. Adults are adults and need to see their children / teens as their babies/offspring who will one day be responsible for their behavior BUT during this dependent time of life on their parents – kids are simply REACTING to the parental choices and environment. This must be a common attitude in immature, and wounding parents. They do not get how vulnerable kids are to their parents who seem to frequently forget their inadvertent cruelties to their children and that leads to further hurt and lack of validation for their adult children. The child’s very reality is denied by the parents and somehow the child is RESPONSIBLE for all the problems in the parents eyes. I never could resolve it so I hope with all my heart that the O’Neals can show the rest of us how it is done. They are both courageous , loveable and self-revealing. I have read Tatum’s books and always identified with her. I too am in recovery- 26 years I am glad to say that I broke the cycle of abuse, addiction and destruction.
