Almost a year after the last episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah was honored in an Arbor Day celebration when a white oak tree was planted outside the North Gateway Park at Chicago’s Navy Pier. The tree was one of thousands that was planted to not only pay tribute to Oprah’s legacy, but also in hopes that it may inspire the joy of reading…a common message that Oprah consistently spread on her show.
After planting the “Reading Tree”, it was quickly to put to use by the students from the Academy of Global Citizenship as they listened in while a storyteller recount Dr. Suess’ “The Lorax.”
