BBC Worldwide Productions and OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, have come together to bring a new show to OWN called “Lovetown, USA”. Currently the producers of the show are narrowing down their search for the perfect town to be the backdrop. Once one is selected, they will send a team of matchmakers to set up shop in this small town for 30 days…getting the residents involved in their own matchmaking process.
Several cities have been considered and many of them have already gone through the application process. The producers were hoping for a small picturesque town with around 15,000 residents that has a strong sense of community. Many towns have been considered, such as: Newton (NC), Clayton (NC), Reidsville (NC), Brunswick, Fuquay-Varina (VA) and Jacksonville (TX)…to name a few.
It appears the final decision hasn’t been made. You can find a sample of the application here. They already held a casting call in Carraboro, NC and a video was shot of some of the hopeful participants. The audio is a little off at times, but it gives you an idea. Take a look!

As a Carrboro resident I speak for my fellow residents when I say, welcome to Carrboro! We love our town so much that we put together a video through the efforts of a local production company owned and run by a proud Carrboro resident. Check it out on Vimeo: Lovetown, USA Carrboro.
I have watched Lovetown and am disappointed by their “conflict resolution” strategies:
they make the kinder and gentler people apologize to the bullies, when the opposite should happen.
Example: a neighbor’s son was almost run over by the bully. The bully declared the subject is off limits, and had a good-reason-my-foot for all he did wrong. Everyone went along, instead of having said arrogant unreaasonable bully confront his misdeeds.
Crazy.
