Fast food TV will make your brain FAT…a little of it is probably ok and won’t have long term consequences…but a lifetime of it? A scary thought. Back when MTV was music television and actually played music, there was little to no fast food or junk TV. So, anyone over 35…you may just barely slip by all of these extra fattening TV shows. But that was a generation or two ago. Now, we have a full dictionary of TV today…and a new society growing up on it.
Definitions:
Fast Food TV: TV programming that adds little to no substance or value to your life other than stealing hours and hours. When watching TV gives your brain a numb effect…that is fast food TV.
Not to be confused with…
- Peeping Tom TV – Made up reality TV for voyeurism viewers. Makes you feel stupid and dirty for watching it. (The Hugh Hefner girlfriend show comes to mind…)
- Shame TV –Programs you feel embarrassed to say you’ve watched. (Hello…Jersey Shore and any and all of it’s spin-offs, etc…)
- Feel Younger TV –Everything on the WB and that other channel near it. ANTM, Vampire Diaries, 90201 – the new ones…Not to say these aren’t GREAT shows…and I’m definitely feeling younger…ummm…I mean, you will definitely feel younger…
- Fake Drama TV –Bravo, Bravo. Like the world needs any more drama. Just sayin…I have never met ANY housewives like the ones you’ve found…Add in the MTV teenage pregnancy show and well…this is close in hand with shame TV.
Now…there is always the regular stuff like…
Talent TV, Scary TV (oooo paranormal shows!), Crime TV (CSI Outer Space…the next generation), Sports TV, Cooking TV, Shop TV, DIY TV, House TV, Weather TV, Kid TV, Teen TV, Animal TV (NOT the channel to leave on for your dogs when you are gone…just saying…so stressful!), Government TV, News TV, Old Movie TV and more and more of the same…
So what is missing from all of these definitions? No hope TV. No love TV (The show Shop Erotic on late night Oxygen doesn’t count). No inspiration TV. No good life TV. Until now…The Oprah Winfrey Network – OWN – our new place for hope, love, inspiration…and a good life. Finally…my fast food TV diet can be supplemented with something better for my soul. The world just may have some hope…not all TV may be bad for your health…OH…please add to the list above – Health TV. I knew I was forgetting something… Anyway, thanks to Oprah…with OWN, maybe we will be something more than a fast food TV nation…I have HOPE…probably because I’m getting a good daily dose of OWN in my TV diet.
