Another holiday gift from OWN! Two new additions have been added to the primetime schedule starting this January. First Oprah’s Master Class returns Sunday, January 8, at 10PM with series focusing on such legends as Jane Fonda, Sidney Poitier, Goldie Hawn, Morgan Freeman, Ted Turner, Reba McEntire, Bon Jovi and athletes like Laird Hamilton and Grant Hill. The series will debut with Academy Award-winning actress, Jane Fonda. As those of you who caught Jane on The Rosie Show know, the premiere will be great! Here is a sneak peek of Oprah’s Master Class. Secondly, the Oprah Winfrey Network announced an exclusive OWN special with “Oprah and the Legendary Cast of ‘Roots’ 35 Years Later” which will air on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 16 at 8PM. In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the miniseries “Roots” (which I took an entire class on in college), this special event will reflect back on the historic miniseries that brought Alex Haley’s novel to root in the lives of everyday Americans. Finally, people were able to witness an honest look at American history from the perspective of a slave. Those who have read or have seen this powerful piece of work will never forget….and those who haven’t, should. The special was taped at Oprah’s Montecito home and will not include clips form the series, but many of Gthe cast members, including Cicely Tyso, LeVar Burton, Leslie Uggams, John Amos, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Ben Vereen, came together to share how the historic series changed their lives.
