Our OWN New Ideas for a New Year of Programming

As we move into 2012 and can see a long road ahead, we thought that this might be the perfect time to add a little “wish” to the list of what we would like to see on OWN.   Now that Oprah is on site and fully focused on the network, it’s time to get ready for some great things to come!  Here is our WISH list of some of the shows that we would LOVE to see on OWN.  Oprah…can you make it happen?

  • A REAL Game Show for Rosie.  Make it happen, Oprah.  Please…make it happen!
  • In the ZONE – Feature amazing Teens, No-Bully programs, Big Dreams, Inspiring Kids, CutiePies, Talented Kids.  Real life and real people…showing us how incredible each of us can be!
  • The Famous Teacher – Professional people with awesome jobs taking regular people & giving them some key tips on how to do their work. For example, Peter Lik, photographer. Give me a TV show with him & an aspiring photographer & teach them what they need to know to be a great photographer. Whisk the person away…give them 48 hours….1 week….of personal training & take me along for the journey. Do the same with a famous chef, a news correspondent, a poker player & all the jobs that we would either love to have or would love to take a glimpse into that life if we could…so that we can go there…with you – OWN.
  • The Daily OWN – Make me smile & give me a reason to laugh with this comedy show. Find a family centered show that will make me laugh & smile…Everything’s too serious & heavy…give me a ½ to 1 hour weekly to laugh…I want to be ROTFL. It’s a necessity for living your best life. Kind of like The Daily Show without the politics meets SNL Weekend Update comedy!
  • Sitting In– A show about sitting in famous college classrooms…or company boardrooms… or any fascinating place from all over the world & help me learn something that I may not have been aware of or exposed to before.
  • The Spa Treatment –  Like Dr. OZ but spa-licious. Give me things to live my best life and feel amazing.  A show that makes me feel like I’m in a spa in my own home. Give me favorite things. Teach me pressure points. Show me the ingredients of a mini-spa getaway…from the snacks to the at-home spa treatments I can do. Tell me how to find the peace & mindful meditation that is fleeting…help me find that “UMMMMMMM moment.” Can this be a series? Maybe…why don’t you TAKE ME to the Spas from all over the world. Show me different treatments. Make it a reality show…& we pull the BEST things out to share with the audience. Oh…please please pick me for this one! I wanna go!!!
  • Culture ShockA show where you take a person or two (like 2 sisters maybe?) and put them into another country to live for a period of time with a host family…to learn the culture and how they interact with the locals. Take people around the world vicariously through the show.
  • Celebrity Shadow or Celebrity Assistant– Celebrity or public figure that is followed for one day and highlight how they give back through the cause that they work for or the charity work that they do. Make it real…not a 10 minute fluff piece. Wouldn’t it have been great to follow around Princess Di around for a week to see the difference her work made in others lives…and in hers.
  • Volunteer World Regular people doing amazing things to change the world. Follow a group of people into different volunteer opportunities all around the world and see how they make a difference and how the experience makes a difference in their lives.
  • Green Me – 30 minute show on the simple things that we can do every day to make a change. 1 change, big difference.
  • The Bucket List– Take people…and go with them on their bucket list journey!   Take one person each week and choose something off their bucket list and make it happen. Let us help you get started… Here is our OWN bucket list!

These are GREAT Ideas and we have so many more! We want the OWN network to achieve greatness…and to have the programming that lifts us up…and inspires us to live our best lives…and we think that programs like these will do just that!  What do you think?

  1. Spot on. Every show idea a winner. I can’t help but think that some of the original shows, original concepts would have worked if given time. But everything is getting tweaked and changed constantly. I loved Rosie’s show when it started but not quite sure what it has become. They have a hit show with “Sweetie Pie’s” so now the rumor is that everything is going to be aimed towards African americans? Frantic maneuvering in my humble opinion.
