On OWN’s Anna & Kristina’s Grocery Bag, Anna and Kristina explored the delicious treats in Gwyneth Paltrow’s new cookbook, My Father’s Daughter. With recipes nestled between stories of her father and the love she has for cooking, beautiful snapshots of her and her family, and even a few unpretentious health tips, you will find recipes for many yummy dishes.
With an ambitious menu of Cold Pea and Basil Soup, Hot Nicoise Salad, Vietnamese Prawn Sandwiches, Duck Ragu, Lalo’s (Gwyneth’s mom, Blythe Danner) Famous Cookies and Favorite Homemade Hot Fudge, A&K had the long day of cooking ahead of them.
As for the product tested this week….Gwyneth swears by Vegenaise, an egg-free substitute for mayo. With a new product in hand, A&K set out to see if people would like it as much as regular mayo. Shockingly, 37% of people preferred Vegenaise claiming it was “smooth and has a real tang to it”. Ranking higher than Hellmann’s, Kewpie (Japanese Style) and Spectrum Canola Mayonnaise. Appears I may need to check this out.
Now back to the food, with the duck dish not participating (and ultimately disappointing) and over-cooked pasta, A&K greeted their special guest, Chef Brian Malarky from Searsuckers. After a few pointers of his own and an overall thumbs up, the group sat back and enjoyed ice cream topped off with the “Favorite Homemade Hot Fudge”, clearly a group favorite.
Aside from the Duck Ragu (ironically a recipe Gwyneth learned from a birthday cooking session with Chef Jamie Oliver), the dishes were an overall success. It was no surprise that both Anna and Kristina had no problem stamping Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook, My Father’s Daughter, as a “BUY” it! In fact, they believed that for the dessert section and the healthy alternatives for stocking your pantry alone was worth it. I’m thinking…it was for the fudge recipe!
