With some people, when you look at them it’s like you are looking at happiness. This is what OWN and Oprah’s Master Class brought to us with Goldie Hawn – happiness. During the one hour of lessons and love, Goldie talks to us about different moments in her own life and what she has learned from the journey. If you missed the lessons, here are some of the amazing pieces of the hour. It’s worth taking a look at the clips from the show…and for taking the time to open your heart up to the pure happiness that is Goldie Hawn. Here are my class notes…
-
On being perfect – Goldie talks about an elementary school teacher who was part of a dance recital and how she told her students, “You have to be perfect.” When Goldie shared this with her mother, she was quick to let her know that “You don’t have to be perfect, you have to be yourself.” Living in fear of not being perfect limits us. Nothings Perfect. Learn this and understand this and embrace your wonderful, non-perfect self.
-
Understand that an anxiety attack often feels like an enemy attack but sometimes it’s just the push to find peace & spirituality.
-
Goldie Hawn’s dad told her, “When you start feeling too big for your britches, I want you to remember how small we are.” A gentle reminder of keeping your life and the world in perspective.
-
EMBRACE THE UNEXPECTED – MasterClass
-
When something wonderful happens, let it happen!
-
“I was so caught up in the dream of having a good life… I became depressed. Detached from everything. Moving in a completely different direction.” – Goldie Hawn’s reminder to keep yourself grounded and when you know you are going the wrong way, change your own course…. her journey
-
When you feel lost, stop and look at your life…and remember what your path has looked like so far.
-
Goldie’s mom reminded her, “The casting couch may get you on the stage but it’s the people and the talent that will keep you there.”
-
Goldie’s journey to the Academy Award – Goldie shares how her nomination for the Oscar was a complete surprise…and that winning was even a greater surprise since she completely forgot about it. She reminds us of the greatest lesson: “It is a great thing to get recognized for something that you’ve done but its a moment in time. Living off of those accolades and making that become some total in the part of your importance in life or even your purpose in life, defining who you are…those awards are wonderful but they are never meant to define who you are. I define myself by my ability to give. I define myself by my ability to understand. I define myself by my ethics and by my truth. These are the things that define who I am….” – Goldie Hawn on MasterClass
- “Congratulations, now get back to work…” – Take the moment to celebrate, but don’t live there. Life keeps moving forward….so, get up and get back to work.
- Love is a choice…each and every day. It’s one you make in how you talk to people, how you treat people and how you walk through the world. Love is a choice. Each and Every Day.
- On parenting – Learn to let go. “Give your children free reign to grow. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t watched…it just means that they are honored. You don’t always have to tower over them…” – Goldie Hawn
- “The beauty of getting older is the surprise of what else you can do to make the world a better place with the wisdom you’ve accrued over those years.” – Goldie Hawn
