OWN will air an exclusive special with “Oprah and the Legendary Cast of ‘Roots’ 35 Years Later” on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 16 at 8/7C. In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the miniseries “Roots”, this special event will reflect back on the historic miniseries that brought Alex Haley’s novel to root in the lives of everyday Americans. Through his book, people were able to witness an honest look at American history from the slave’s perspective.

Those who have read or have seen this powerful piece of work will never forget….and those who haven’t, SHOULD. The special was taped at Oprah’s Montecito home and will not include clips form the series, while many of the cast members, including Cicely Tyso, LeVar Burton, Leslie Uggams, John Amos, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Ben Vereen, share how the historic series changed their lives.
