Programming Your OWN Network – 10 New Show Ideas for the Oprah Winfrey Network

Now that the OWN Network has given us the programming that they think we want….here are some ideas on what we really want.

  1. The Famous Teacher – Professional people with awesome jobs taking regular people & giving them some key tips on how to do their work.  For example, Peter Lik, photographer.  Give me a tv show with him & an aspiring photographer & teach them what they need to know to be a great photographer.  Whisk the person away…give them 48 hours….1 week….of personal training & take me along for the journey.  Do the same with a famous chef, a news correspondent, a poker player & all the jobs that we would either love to have or would love to take a glimpse into that life if we could…so that we can go there…with you – OWN.
  2. The Daily OWN – Make me smile & give me a reason to laugh with this comedy show.  Find a family centered show that will make me laugh & smile…Everything’s too serious & heavy…give me a ½ to 1 hour weekly to laugh…I want to be ROTFL. It’s a necessity for living your best life.  Kind of like The Daily Show without the politics meets SNL Weekend Update comedy.
  3. After the Meltdown (a comedy show) – Features a fictional celebrity who has had a public meltdown…& fallen from greatness to not-so-greatness & find the humor in building a life back up instead of finding the fascination in watching the person perish. Keep it fictional.
  4. Sitting In – A show about sitting in famous college classrooms…or company boardrooms… or any fascinating place from all over the world & help me learn something that I may not have been aware of or exposed to before.
  5. The Spa Treatment – A show that makes me feel like I’m in a spa in my own home.  Give me favorite things.  Teach me pressure points.  Show me the ingredients of a mini-spa getaway…from the snacks to the at-home spa treatments I can do.  Tell me how to find the peace & mindful meditation that is fleeting…help me find that “UMMMMMMM moment.”  Can this be a series?  Maybe…why don’t you TAKE ME to the Spas from all over the world.  Show me different treatments.  Make it a reality show…& we pull the BEST things out to share with the audience.  Oh…please please pick me for this one!  I wanna go!!!
  6. Culture Shock A show where you take a person or two (like 2 sisters maybe?) and put them into another country to live for a period of time with a host family…to learn the culture and how they interact with the locals.  Take people around the world vicariously through the show.
  7.  Celebrity Shadow – Celebrity or public figure that is followed for one day and highlight how they give back through the cause that they work for or the charity work that they do.  Make it real…not a 10 minute fluff piece.  Wouldn’t it have been great to follow around Princess Di around for a week to see the difference her work made in others lives…and in hers.
  8. Volunteer World Follow a group of people into different volunteer opportunities all around the world and see how they make a difference and how the experience makes a difference in their lives.
  9. Green Me – 30 minute show on the simple things that we can do every day to make a change.  1 change, big difference.
  10. The Bucket List – Take one person each week and choose something off their bucket list and make it happen.

…And so many more ideas….Oprah, call us for the treatments & more details.  I want the OWN network to achieve greatness…and to have the programming that lifts me up…and makes me feel like a better person… I think we all do…

  1. Pick me for the culture shock traveling one! I want to go, too! And can we stop at a few spas on the way???
Love these ideas! Oprah should call you guys! Thanks for sharing.

  2. I think people would be interested in a show that makes a difference for the average American. Nowadays Americans feel that legislatures do not look out for their interest. Big business has the power to make change and average hard working Americans rights and protections are slowly being stripped away. I would watch a program that gave an actual voice to americans so that changes can occur in our system of government. Education is power, and feel if the averagramerican learned how the government works, may be elected officials would less to the 1%.
