Following her fresh beatbox, Rosie began the show by introducing the man who found her and Michelle’s dog. Sharing the story of how he found the dog, the lecture he gave Rosie and the concern he had, it was obvious that Rosie got truly lucky that day. In thanks, Rosie sent both of his dogs to a spa and Alan and his wife to the Wit hotel including dinner. The good news….the dog is alright and now we can move on.

Filling her awesome new red chairs, Anthony Baxter made his way on set. As a documentary film maker, he felt it was his personal responsibility to bring attention to an environmental issue occurring in Scotland. Here is the quick on his film “You’ve Been Trumped” – Donald Trump wanted to build a golf course and the community opposed it. The dunes that lie within the area are unique to the world and hold special scientific value. Despite the people and the local government opposing the golf course, the national government called in the application and tried to push it through, stating it was in the country’s best interest. The locals stood their ground. That is when it appeared that Donald Trump got nasty. After I watched a clip of Donald calling a local man really horrible names, I quickly got the jest of it. He was bullying them and trying to punish them for not agreeing to sell their land. When watching the film, we witness police and local governments working “like Mr. Trumps’ private security force” and sadly the same Donald we all know – the poster child for corporate America, greed and rudeness. I bet if you checked his shoes, you’d find the remains of families, communities and dreams layering the soles. Take a look at the film’s trailer.

Anthony spoke of the process of trying to make the film. Sadly he seemed to have hit wall after wall. It didn’t surprise me that Donald Trump and Scotland’s national government didn’t want this story to make headlines. You see….when you do something wrong you hope that no one will find out. The more the light is shined on the injustice, the harder it is for them to justify their actions. Take a look at Anthony talking about a piece in the film where he got arrested by the local police who seemed to be more like a private security team for Trump. It is both heart-breaking and scary to think this can occur in a free country.

Despite Donald Trump calling this film a failure it is clear that the world is disagreeing. Claiming it will bring in thousands of jobs, the film makers turned the figures over to the London School of Economics and a prominent pro-building professor. After pouring over the information, they believed “close to zero” jobs would be created. A shocking reality to the promises Trump appeared to make. Despite Trump’s crushing attempts, the local people continued to support each other and stand as one.

Watching this film, I am hopeful. In a world saturated by corporations who seem to make the rules and enforce their will, one small community stood together. More importantly a brave man stood up and documented it. We need more films like this in our world. Society needs to hold mirrors up to those who cannot see and spotlights on those who put profit before people. If I had a barn….I’d paint the message there. Until then, this little voice will yell out when I can and support courageous films whenever given the opportunity. Hopefully OWN will continue to have the same bravery and bring us bold films like “You’ve Been Trumped.” It is just the kind of mindful TV so many of us are looking for.
