Before we begin, I rarely say things like this, but RO…don’t wear that outfit again. Please. I don’t normally care about these things, but it is that bad. I must admit I love the interaction with Google Pete. We needed a token guy…totally adds some balance of energy. Although most viewers were expecting to see Kathy Griffin, we were pleasantly surprised to be introduced to the iconic Joel Grey and Sutton Foster.
A Broadway legend, Joel Grey still performs 8 shows a week and honestly doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Many of us recognize him from his appearances on shows like Alias, Brothers and Sisters, Private Practice, Oz and Grey’s Anatomy, Joel has had a career that has spanned decades. In the interview, he takes us back to his beginnings when he first appeared on Eddie Cantor’s NBC show,The Colgate Comedy Hour…a show that introduced the world to Sammy Davis Jr. despite concerns from studio executives. A true pioneer of the time. This appearance kick-started Joel’s long-lasting career. Admitting his favorite role was “Caberet” because of how well written it was, he shared the highlight has been acting in “The Normal Heart” which he later directed. The story which focused on the rise of HIV in New York is now being adapted by Glee’s Ryan Murphy for the big screen. Already lining up “A-listers” for the film, Ryan is a great artist to take on such an important film.
Currently in the run of Anything Goes, Joel and co-star Sutton Foster treat the audience to “Friendship” from the Broadway show. Enjoy!
Following the number, Sutton Foster joined Rosie and Joel on the couch. Both her and her brother, Hunter, found their way to the stage…from a family that wasn’t in the business. Now into her 10th show, her gratitude was enduring. Listen in to how she got her big break during Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Following the interview, we were once again treated to a musical treat with Sutton and Broadway’s Colin Donnell in one of Anything Goes most famous numbers….”You’re the Top”.
As a bonus, Colin Donnell took to the stage with his co-stars for a little time with Rosie. Only into his second Broadway show, I couldn’t help but think that his career may span as long as Joel’s. He was equally as amazing…and I’m not just saying that because he brought CDs from the musical for the whole audience. It didn’t hurt though.
Closing the show, Rosie brought her long-time friend Bobby Pearce and his dog, Abby, front and center. Katreese created a song and even put together a hilarious montage. Very funny! Check it out.
