Rosie’s first guest was Beth Behrs from the funny show “2 Broke Girls.” Growing up the child of two teachers, further education was really the only stipulation on her dreams. They insisted she go to school first. Now grateful, she is living her dream. On screen she and her co-star Kat Dennings have incredible chemistry. Taking us through the casting to the fairytale she is living today, her story is an incredible one. Still so new on the scene, it was refreshing to hear her excitement.
Thinking that musicals were her dream, she was led in the direction of acting. Like most actors, she wasn’t the popular girl in school. In fact she claimed to be a little on the nerdy side. Happy and now dating actor Michael Gladis who played on Mad Men, it seemed her life was on the perfect track. When asked if there was anyone she wanted to meet….she told her you. Apparently she and Kat both loved the movie “Now and Then” which Ro stared in. It was sweet. Another fave would be Julia Roberts. After talking about her first interview on camera with the incredibly funny and down-to-earth Craig Ferguson, Ro found her way into an array of first questions. Very cute!
Rosie’s next guest was Traci Lords. Celebrating her 10 year wedding anniversary and a mom, her life is so drastically different from the Traci Lords I grew up hearing about. In fact, I knew very little about her real story. But with time, things change. That even rang true for her courtship with her husband Jeff. Friends for six years, Traci shared all of her secrets. He knew it all. So when the heavy flirtation, there were no skeletons in the closet. Wishing she had started to have children sooner, she admits to being changed profoundly by having her son.
From light to heavy in moments, Rosie went straight into Traci’s childhood and the abuse she endured. Being raped at age ten and forced into prostitution by her mother’s ex-boyfriend as a child and led into adult porn underage, her life wasn’t an easy one. Luckily she was saved and learned to heal.
Watching the show, I sat thinking about how I just watched two women who had drastically different circumstances in their childhood…polar opposites. In that moment I felt badly for a woman that I had preconceived judgment about early in my life and never really thought of again. Now, I sit as an adult and realize how much she was failed as a child. I am happy to see she is doing well and that she found a way to deal with her past. I know this…my thoughts about her have changed completely. Another reminder to myself that you never judge someone unless you lived their life. She was just a child….and this doesn’t define who she is today. Now doing music and making movies, Traci is struggling to build a new legacy.
