Rosie was on a high from this last weekend. She went into NYC and saw a couple of shows – Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway and War Horse. She even brought in a clip of War Horse, a show about a boy and his horse, to show the audience. The puppetry was amazing and incredibly realistic. I only wish I was there to see it. Apparently Steven Spielberg is making the movie. I will have to settle for now.
The weekend antics led to a few great stories about celebrity uncomfortableness and outwitting the paparazzi. Covered in tears from War Horse, she noticed Steve Martin, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy and Martin Short in the audience. Only close to Martin, she had one of those celebrity awkward moments. To say hi or not to say hi? Apparently there is a major anxiety issue for some celebs as they attempt to maneuver. Most of them don’t know each other but everyone KNOWS each other. Luckily she wasn’t dissed by Steve but she clearly walked away wanting a do-over.
NOW…the announcement of the newest hyped celebrity who became part of the Jenny Craig (now known as Jenny) was a bit anticlimactic. The show’s introduction announced the night’s guest as “Superstar Mariah Carey’s weight loss revealed”. It was a bit odd when Rosie tried to keep us guessing – we already knew. The curtains pulled back to find Mariah dropping down on a sliver of moon. She looked wonderful.
It is hard for me now. After watching “Miss Representation” on OWN I find I have more difficulty listening to conversations about weight, beauty or fashion. If you didn’t see you should have! Check out my article on it. As I was saying, I guess I am looking for something meatier these days. Why are we as a society making such a big deal about how many pounds a woman lost after giving birth to twins? The show became more about body image. I know – the beauty industry is a HUGE money machine, but as a consumer I get a little tired of it all. I was glad to hear her and the babies were doing so well and would have loved to have heard more about her work and life. The babies’ names are Monroe and Moroccan. Their nicknames are Roc and Roe – yes, it sounds like rock n’ roll. Too cute!
She shared stories of avoiding mirrors and scales, wearing dresses in the pool, and how she met Rosie when she was a little girl. Rosie use to sing to her at the bus stop. Such a small world! Sharing stories like every mom, it was clear that her life has changed. They even showed a cute clip of her and her husband Nick Cannon.
Rosie welcomed back a few of the guests who joined the “Ready, Set, Go” around a month ago. They had great questions for Mariah about the program. She even brought one month of food for the Jenny program, workout gear, her Christmas CD and her newest fragrance for EVERYONE in the audience. At the end she met 2 of her fans that had written into Rosie online about wanting Mariah to be on the show. Taking a moment with each of them, she presented them with some Mariah swag. It was very cool!
