It amazes me that Rosie is only on her third show. It is as if she never left….only in a WAY cooler element now. The stand up routine was wonderful once again. I loved how she showed clips of Chaz Bono and his mom Cher on Dancing With the Stars. Although she says she wouldn’t…I bet DWTS could totally coax her. All they have to do is donate some obscene amount of money to charity and RO would have the hardest time saying no. Sorry, Rosie. I shouldn’t have said that out loud.
Each episode TRS (The Rosie Show) shifts a little in their chair – trying to get nice and comfy. Tonight it was removing mics from audience members so they don’t seem so vetted or pre-selected. So now people raise their hands to get called on and the staff scurry around to get them the mic. Ironically before the hands went up, Rosie starting to talking to her first audience member who just happened to be as Rosie said a “lipstick lesbian”. After talking a little and a few jokes about how she and her partner represent the new lesbians that are “fancy” and in high heels, she moved on to “hands up” questions. One question addressed RO’s withdrawal from All My Children. She admitted she hadn’t watched the last episode yet and was waiting until she had time to really soak it in. I grew up watching AMC with my mom and sisters. So many special memories. I wonder is RO will be watching once it hits the Internet…I know we will! The stand up ended up another great RO number about Time magazine TV critic James Poniewozik and his kind review. I LOVE these mini-musicals.
Once questions ended Roseanne Barr was sitting on stage looking great. Rosie complemented Roseanne on her show, Roseanne’s Nuts. I vaguely recalled hearing about the show but have no real clue what it was about. Apparently it is homeless right now and when Roseanne commented “I hope it continues on another network”, RO piped up “Really? Like OWN perhaps?”. Was RO offering an OWN clue? I have no doubt that if Oprah brought her to OWN that she’d disappoint. She is so funny and not afraid to say exactly what she is thinking…without censor. As they talk about how awesome it is to work for Oprah – “The Queen of Everything” as Rosie puts it. Being that it is LIVE, there are always a few bumps. Tonight was all about the mics and video clips. Quickly we moved on as Rosie reminded us all of the National Anthem drama. For those who don’t recall – Roseanne sang off key a bit and then grabbed her faux nuts and spit. The lead in to the story was all built in for a honest Roseanne moment of “He can suck it!” in regards to Big Pres. Bush (not to be confused with little Bush). Apparently they weren’t close. After covering more about menopause and Rosie’s magic hormone cream. In the tradition of WAY TOO MUCH INFO, both of them shared how they had lost their sex drive…however, with the new magic cream RO swears her mojo is back. I told you – TMI. Joking that she feared going on male-based hormones because she’d “lose half of my IQ”, Roseanne met RO’s jokes tit for tat. Once the guy barbs were over, Roseanne talked about her new guy, Johnny. She seems happy. It is great to see her doing so well. A totally relaxed interview – loved it. With five kids, it is amazing how Roseanne is still going strong. Good for her!
As she came back from break, Rosie balanced a plate of raw meat. She then brought up Moe, a local waiter, that had impressed her at Gibsons Steak House. She claimed the dedicated Gibsons’ employee of 23 years was the best waiter she ever had. What an awesome experience for him and his family. Rosie had him there to show us his meaty skills. After his poetic spiel about the meat, Moe announced Gibsons was giving everyone in the audience a $50 gift certificate. Suddenly Moe became an audience favorite!
Ending the show was the game “Odd One Out”. Before I move forward I got to say….please stop singing in the games. It just doesn’t work. The game was cute and the birthday girl was sent down the walk of shame. In true form, the party ended with confetti!
Tune in tomorrow for Rosie’s guest…Lisa Kudrow and the cast from Broadway’s hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert pulls out an incredible performance!
LOVE LOVED LOVE Rosie on the Ophrah network! I am thinking, no one will be at war no more if we ALL sit still and watch the Oprah show all weekend! THEY are playing back to back The Rosie Show! I loved this epi probably the most because yeah, they are turning older and they are…menapausal! Sure, we can LEARN from ’em! I am. I have learned so much so far!!!
Rosie mentioning / joking about gays and lesbians is something that makes ME smile!
I love the Oprah network too. I am learning so much. I caught her on LifeClass one night and got some information to tell my old friend about…..how forgiving, and not keeping secrets. Even tho it was about Ellen, (also a huge icon for me) what i gained from the show was definately an AH -HA feeling! I watched I tape a lot on my On demand feature but watching all of it now on Saturday is GREAT!
