An end of the year wrap up show was such a great idea! Following a nostalgic short montage of the best of TRS (despite only being on a few months), Rosie and special guest Kevin Meaney broke into song about the hot topics of the year…covering everything from the Kardashians to Charlie Sheen to tweeting private parts. It was fantastic! As the next segment began, a table adorned the stage with a hilarious group of comedians – Kevin Meaney, Kathy Nijimy and Lizz Winstead.
With topics from Lindsay Lohan’s parents, Charlie Sheen #winning breakdown, Donald Trump’s failures, Anthony Weiner’s wiener, the beauty of love and gay marriage which of course led into a conversation about Rick Perry’s hate ad. Reminded about all the annoying topics I had forgotten, Rosie soon lead the group into the Occupy Wall Street talk – about how important conversations like these are to our nation. Unfortunately we had to keep moving and ended right back to the Kardashian’s joke of marriage.
Refreshingly Lizz remarked that we are filling the airways with women who aren’t setting the right example. I think back to the documentary “Miss Representation” which aired earlier this year on OWN. She is so right. Housewives of wherever and reality shows based on beauty, catty in-fighting and shopping don’t really build the world up. I love that women are on, but we need them to be in a positive light – role models for what we want our nation’s daughters to grow up to be. As Rosie pointed out the horrible show “Dance Mom” and then suggested they needed to TiVo it so they could witness it. My thoughts….please don’t TiVo it! Don’t give ratings to a show that doesn’t deserve it. Watch OWN instead.
Finally she mentioned one of my favorite positive stories of the year…Chaz Bono! LOVE his story and the barriers he is breaking down. As Lizz commented that he is boring, I think she meant that he was just a normal guy. That is great. I want people to think he is just like any guy. I pray the whole world thinks that way.
Unfortunately the Chaz high was lost to the GOP. The best joke…was when Lizz referred to the GOP candidates as a choice between “what package of expired meat would be safe enough to eat”. Too funny! The laughter quickly ended with Newt Gingrich’s made reference to putting poor kids to work as janitors in schools. Unbelievable. Newt – kids need to focus on an education and being a kid. Leave it to a GOP candidate to try to find cheap labor where ever they can. I guess that it their way of trying to bring jobs back to the United States.
Wrapping the show was three grown men broke into a hilarious rendition of Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever. You have to check this out.
