The pressure of premiere week reared its head on “The Rosie Show”. Rosie is use to a live show and her team is the same team that has perfected the Oprah Show for years. All of them are incredibly talented and looking to find their groove. As Rosie relived the errors of the week, I paused and thought…why? I hated to see her tear herself down. Each episode she interjects the thoughts of those who are critical. It is like pointing out a pimple on your face that no one really noticed. I know there are people out there looking to find anything that goes wrong and point it out, but not all OWN viewers are like that. So, where are the highlights of all that went right this week?
After explaining the audio and video issues that occurred during the Roseanne segment, Rosie announced that she’d be asking guests to come with their own family clips from home. She then shared one of her own from Vivi in her lengthy dance number. RO then shared some of the other comments she had heard about the show– people saying she talked too much about “gay things” and a tweet about the lack of desk. Of course it was the perfect opportunity for RO to break into song…with her staff as backup. Peppered amongst the jokes of Vivi dancing forever and her staff getting carried away with their live performances, Rosie was thrown by Arthur, a man sleeping in the audience. “You can get all the good reviews you want in world but when you see a grown, handsome man asleep in the fourth row, you know you pretty much suck at it.”
Once again I felt bad for Rosie. She is doing a great job, but if I could give her some advice it would be…STOP listening to what everyone is saying and just be yourself. We all love you because of who you are. So relax and let it flow. If you feel the need to listen, then wait until the end of each week and address it as a team but don’t let it mess with your flow. There will always be people who think they know what you need, but you are surrounded by the best in the business…trust yourselves! In no time at all the show will be seamless.
Tony Award nominee, Valerie Harper, joined Rosie on the show and it was obvious that they were very close. Incredible stories of preparing for her role as Tallulah Bankhead, possible sitcoms to come, her appearance on “Desperate Housewives”, the beauty of becoming older and the excitement of Valerie meeting her daughter for the first time.
Then the Bacon Brothers took to the stage. As many of you know, Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael have been playing music since they were young. As they discussed how Kevin is old enough to have a remake done on one of his movies, “Footloose”. I can’t believe I am that old. UGH. Still it is great that this movie will be brought to a whole new generation. Michael then went on to share how his initial appearance on the original Rosie show led to the Bacon Brothers getting signed to a recording company. Now, six CDs later they are still going strong. The audience then heard their newest song “New Year’s Day”. It is amazing how he never seems to age.
Finally the show wraps with a game of “Doodlez” where the photo of a star is covered in doodles which are slowly removed until the contestants get it right. Luckily one of the contestants happened to be Arthur’s daughter who shared that her father falls asleep at a lot of places. He should really get his thyroid checked. Just saying because I had a family member who had this issue and it turned out that he had a serious thyroid issue. Now, back to the game. It was cute and here is the clip.
Tune in Monday night for Rosie’s next guest…Sharon and Kelly Osbourne & Boyz II Men!
