When Oprah ended her talk show she announced to the world that she would be getting out of her seat and heading out into the world. As of late, she has been taking us into the homes of some of the societies most intriguing people. This month is no different.
Grammy-award winner Rihanna has filled the covers of tabloid magazines for years now…especially since the pre-Grammy attack from her former boyfriend, Chris Brown back in 2009. Stories of domestic violence and their love-hate relationship haven’t ceased. Rihanna finally sits down to discuss the relationship and life in an interview with Oprah on OWN. “She’s thoughtful. She was very emotional. She was vulnerable. And she pushes the edge. A lot,” says Oprah.
Although the interview only briefly touches on the incident where Chris Brown attacked Rihanna, I have strong feelings and concerns over it. It is so important that women and young girls are hearing the right message about domestic violence. In fact, that would be a GREAT episode for Our America with Lisa Ling. Any relationship with domestic violence is unhealthy and I hope that Rihanna and Chris will move on to healthier lives. However, rumors hold that the momentum seems to be heading in the opposite direction.
Rihanna will also spend time with Oprah discussing family, her career and the price she has paid for fame…it should be interesting. Be sure to set your DVR for Oprah’s Next Chapter Sunday, August 19th at 9/8c…only on OWN. Join the conversation on Twitter using hashtag #NextChapter.
