When I was little, the cookie of choice right before our afternoon nap were ginger snaps. I only remember it vaguely as our tiny little hands each got a small Dixie cup of milk and one cookie. On some days, we got two. Early childhood memories sprinkled along the path. As I got older, I read somewhere that ginger cookies were healing…which makes them the logical choice to keep around because healing trumps calories always.
So, when I’m not feeling well (like today), I go in for the cookies and some hot tea. Perhaps the ginger offers some medicinal value or perhaps the love from the memories offer a little magic…or maybe it’s a combination of both. What I do know is that there are things throughout your life – cookies that bring comfort and love in an instant and memories that bring an energy and magic into your space like no other. Take a moment to think of your favorite moments and your best memories….and bring that love back into your heart one little cookie at a time.
I can’t help but remember the chocolate chip cookies that the lunch lady would save for OJ and I. I couldn’t tell you why those cookies gave us so much peace and serenity, they just did. She would always save us the best ones and either of us never let the other go without them. OJ was a good friend, he was my best friend. But I think the lunch lady that took the time to care enough to save us the best for last was what made the cookies taste so delicious.
