Each Friday, we are taking a look back over the week and bringing you the “Top 5 Moments” of OWN programming each week. This week was especially difficult to narrow down….so much good stuff, but we did our best!
“Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview” – Whitney Houston and Oprah – Oprah’s heartfelt opening to honor Whitney Houston’s life in broadcasting the two hour interview from The Oprah Winfrey Show back in 2009 was beautiful. Giving us a glimpse of Oprah’s thoughts and insights, Oprah shares that she had a private moment just before the interview, with cameras off and just soulful and honest. Oprah asked her, “What is it that you want to get out of this interview?” Whitney’s response, “Oprah, I’m here to have the real deal conversation…” So, thank you OWN for running this 2 hour special of Whitney telling her story and of her journey. As you watch, you can feel the energy and connection and the love. The lovely piece was not just a 2 hour re-run of Oprah’s interview, but included behind the scenes moments and thoughtful introspection. Open, candid, honest, and unforgettable. An amazing tribute and worthy of topping this top five list.
Oprah’s Oscar Special with Viola Davis – So many lessons within the interview. “We were their dreams” Viola shared when speaking of family. That is how so many of elders feel. The pride is palpable. Then the lesson of finding peace…loved it. It is important to stop denying the past and accepting that all of the history made us who we are today. It isn’t about rewriting history or righting the wrongs….it is about doing better from this day forward. Never forget your past!
“America’s Money Class” with Suze Orman’s Final Class – Suze ended her 6-week course with a quiet room filled of attentive listeners. Suze reminded us that we must be as financially intimate with our partners as we are physically intimate with them. You have to be able to talk about it. So many lessons from this series…Suze is amazing!
Oprah Presents Master Class with Laird Hamilton– A huge wave rider it doesn’t seem there is much to that holds Laird back. However as he rode the wave in what he calls the “human cheese grater” of Tahiti, he waged a war within his soul….should he jump or should he ride? Fear surrounded him and he made a decision to ride. In that moment, he reminded us that the way you use fear makes all the difference. “That moment can dictate whether you have success or failure.”
“Super Soul Sunday” with Gary Zukav– Fitting for the week of love, Oprah interviewed Gary and his wife offering a mini-master class in spiritual partnerships. In those moments, Oprah shared a simple truth with us all…“Instead of looking for the right person, work to make yourself the right person for you and the right person will then be drawn to you based upon the work that you’ve done for yourself.” An important message that I hope resonates with viewers. It isn’t about finding a better half or someone to complete you. Instead, focus on being complete and whole within yourself and love will follow.
Don’t see your favorite moment here? Well…leave a comment and share it with other us and the rest of the OWN family.
