Each Friday, we are taking a look back over the week and bringing you the “Top 5 Moments” of OWN programming each week. Although there weren’t a lot of new shows on this week, there were plenty of moments to pick from….so much good stuff, but we did our best!
OWN Documentary “Family Affair” – It has been awhile since I have seen a film that makes me feel as if nothing was held back. “Family Affair” tears apart the wounds of a family to look at the damage caused by both physical and sexual abuse. Watching as the family barely held themselves together, I was in awe of their openness and courage. This film WILL and HAS changed lives. Great job bringing it to OWN!
Oprah’s Next Chapter with Paula Deen – Paula was so down to earth. It was great to hear her story of triumph and caution. She not only prepared her house for a month, she opened her heart to as wide as she could. Despite her incredible success, she was authentic with real insecurities….just like everyone else. PLUS, our favorite gal, Gayle King was on the show and Oprah actually came on camera in pink pajamas and rubber boots. Seriously! I have to agree with our gal, Gayle. I can’t watch a helpless animal suffer. Even if you pull out the hook and throw them back, all the other predators know the little guy is weak. I silently yet desperately chant “RUUUNNN.” Too much for me!
Super Soul Sunday “Love Hate Love” – Super Soul Sunday is becoming one of my soul favorites. This film highlighted three incidents where people were either killed or injured in terrorist attacks…and turned their anger to love. Focusing on bringing hope and light into the world, these families and individuals were strong and inspirational reminding us that even in the darkest moments of our lives there are opportunities to grow, find kindness and spread love.
Super Soul Sunday with Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee – Oprah’s interview under the oaks was as eye-opening as always. However this week the softness of Llewllyn seemed to dig a little deeper into my soul. Oprah shared a quote from his book “Sufism: The Transformation of the Heart” that lingered with me for days. “Since I learnt that He longs for me, longing for Him never leaves me for an instant.” When I discovered a way to articulate this a few years ago, it changed my life…with every breath. Knowing you are never alone and always wanted gives you a sense of love that is far richer than the love that poets often write about. Who knew I had a little Sufi in me? Just LOVED it!
Oprah’s Masterclass with Reba McEntire– As Reba shared her journey on Sunday night, the whole program came with a spirit and energy. Cherish those you love. Find your own song. Always jump in. Be thankful to just be “in the game.” Some real big lessons from a small town country girl. We are all capable of anything…we just have to move through the world with a spirit and an energy like Reba.
Don’t see your favorite moment here? Well…leave a comment and share it with other us and the rest of the OWN family.
