Each Friday, we are taking a look back over the week and bringing you the “Top 5 Moments” of OWN programming each week. There were plenty of moments to pick from….so much good stuff and we did our best!
Oprah’s Next Chapter with The Houston Family – Oprah raised her OWN bar this week by taking us into the lives of Whitney Houston’s family just a few short weeks after her death. Millions watched as a strong and resilient Bobbi Kristina and Pat and Gary Houston shared with us the very private side of a family growing out of grief and moving through the process. As we watched, we learned that often times, just as Whitney Houston’s song reminds us, we don’t know our own strength.
ONC Ratings – The wave was felt following Oprah’s Next Chapter with the Houston family as the numbers came in…3.5 million viewers! As impressive as it the results were, it represented so much more. Like a strong foot planting itself into the ground, the ripple has begun.
Super Soul Sunday’s film “What About Me?” – A musical awakening. Music, inspiration and truth interwoven with an underlying rhythm of a collective insanity. Often we talk about “A HA” moments, but this was an “A HA” experience. Riveting from the start and life changing within each moment, we walked away more self-aware, understanding our mad intelligence, and searching for the soundtrack to the film. Thank you once again OWN.
“The Rosie Show” with Liza Minnelli – It was incredible watching a legend….a true classic star. As the we watched the interview, memories flooded back from all the stories and life lessons passed down by Liza and her family. There was a moment within the interview that we got a little quieter. As Liza shared stories of her childhood friendships with Mia Farrow, Tisha Sterling and Rock Brynner, we were caught in a moment of wondering what it was like to be Liza…full of hope and dreams and just a child. It was a beautiful moment.
Super Soul Sunday with Gary Zukav – What is authentic power? It always sounds good when we talk about it, but what does it really mean and where do we get it? This week, under the oak, Gary Zukav explains it…and now, I understand. It’s when you go inside to develop an emotional awareness instead of acting (or reacting) in the moment. When you find yourself in the middle of something where you feel you are going to be reactionary, take yourself out of that space. Breathe and go inside. “In that space, you can choose consciously how you will respond,” Gary tells us. “Through impulse or through the most loving part of your personality. By exercising your authentic power, you have then changed your universe and you can make this kind of choice every time you choose to come from a place of intention of love instead of fear.”
Don’t see your favorite moment here? Well…leave a comment and share it with other us and the rest of the OWN family.
