Tensions were running high again this week on Sweetie Pie’s, especially for Tim. With a new baby, a wedding approaching fast and the restaurants everything felt overwhelming. Miss Robbie could see her son winding up and worried about when he was going to pop. “You better blow it out. You’re holding it in too long.” Unfortunately, you can’t always pause life to take a breath. The Upper Crust was moving fast and things were coming up. A year before when Robbie had purchased the building, she had been told the roof should last about 10 years. Yet there she sat in a room with contractors informing her there was a leak and it could be up to $50,000. Joking she’d be losing her chandeliers, the pressure fell on Robbie. This could be bad.
While Robbie was trying to figure out how to fix the roof, Tim was meeting up with Jenae and the wedding planner, Aaren. Yet he didn’t crack a single smile. “When I see Aaren, I see a person that’s pushing me closer towards death. Not death in the literal sense. Just like death of my single self and Aaren is just helping her push me towards the burial ground which is the wedding.” Clearly Tim was dealing with a lot of issues. He appeared to be getting quieter and angrier. When Aaren told them that they could only invite people who they knew the first and last names of, Tim had to speak out. Calling each other names, Tim and Jenae were quickly reaching a tipping point.
Instead Tim headed off to work trying to leave the wedding drama behind him. If he had it his way, I’m not sure there would even be a wedding. He was totally overwhelmed. So when he arrived to work to find Andre and Charles 4 hours late, he was ready to assert some control over one of the only areas he had any say…work. He may be the manager, but because of his mom…he really didn’t have any power. Despite the fact that Andre and Charles continued to goof around and get paid for doing nothing, Miss Robbie wasn’t going to fire them. She didn’t make waves. However, Tim saw the bigger picture. Seeing them as young men, he was frustrated at their lack of respect and work ethics. That was where Tim snapped. He began with grabbing at Charles physically and then it escalated into a head lock on Andre and soon a punch. It was ugly. Shocked and hurt, Andre stormed off.
Meanwhile, Robbie was enjoying a little time with her grandson, TJ, when Charles and Andre stormed the room. Both of them are upset and Charles on the verge of tears. They spun their story of innocence claiming they hadn’t done anything to cause the problem. In truth, they hadn’t done anything different but Tim wasn’t reacting to the moment…he reacted to the history of all the moments they had done this. As a protective grandmother, Robbie headed down to the restaurant to confront Tim.
“You do not put your hands on anybody. That’s no way to solve a problem.” Amen! There is NEVER a reason to lay your hands on anyone. All you teach is for the person to fear you…there is no lesson in it and no opportunity for growth. Just a bully asserting power over someone weaker. With that said, it was easy to see how Tim’s path led him to this. He just didn’t have the tools to handle all that he was going through. He wanted to discipline the next generation more than his mother had raised him. He felt they needed a stricter environment in order to avoid prison or a life of handouts. Yet for his mother it was simple, “The fist is not the answer.” As Tim claimed that the boys had no control, he was out of control. Angry at his choices, Miss Robbie fired her son.
Now in fairness, Robbie tied Tim’s hands by not enforcing rules on Andre and Charles. The example they set for the other employees was horrible. How could Tim garner any respect from employees if Andre and Charles clearly don’t respect him? But there was no mistaking…Tim took it too far.
As if one drama wasn’t enough, Robbie headed to the bank to find that there was no money left to repair the roof. Unsure of what to do, she headed back to the restaurant. Since Tim was no longer there, she had left Charles as acting manager. But it didn’t take her long to realize that he wasn’t in the building and that he had taken off. His excuse…he went to pick up his new dog. That was enough for Robbie. As he brought the dog to Sweetie Pie’s as a buffer between him and his aunt, Robbie stopped him in his tracks. After confirming he left his post to get a dog, she quickly fired him. Miss Robbie was pissed and cleaning house! Not only was the roof falling in, her family was crumbling around her and she didn’t have time for nonsense.
Following his barber shop therapy, Tim decided to head over to a meeting at the Upper Crust where Miss Robbie was picking the color scheme. As part owner, Tim wanted to be a part of it. I’m not sure if he was trying to break the ice with his mom or just find more to fight about. That wasn’t clear. But luckily someone in the family was calm enough to see that something needed to change. Feeling like all the problems began when he came to town, Andre worked to coordinate getting his family to sit down for a meeting. It wasn’t going to be easy!
The plan was to get everyone back at Sweetie Pie’s and hope that love would bring them back together. I wasn’t sure that putting Tim, Andre, Charles and Miss Robbie in the same room without a better plan was a good idea. But Andre was determined to get the family back on track. Seeing how much it meant to Andre, Robbie was ready to make the call…when Tim walked in. He was back and greeted with his mom’s open arms. Andre continued to work his peace-making efforts by initiating conversation between Charles and Robbie. Following hugs and a little love, she reminded Charles she loved him and was only a phone call away. However, he wasn’t rehired and continued to serve out his sentence with his mom at the other Sweetie Pie’s location. Still after all the hugs, there was one more issue to be addressed. Andre respectfully approached Tim and asked to speak to him. He shared that family was important to him and he was ready to be a better employee. All was forgiven and they hugged it out. It was great to see the family back together again!
