Thanksgiving week with Sweetie Pie’s was all about second chances and coming out of one’s comfort zone. Charles was back from suspension and hoping to convince Robbie to give Jazzmin a second chance. TJ was almost 3 pounds and finally ready for his father to hold him and Tim was stressing about Jenae’s father, John, coming into town. As usual, the Montgomery family brought out the best in each other…leaving us with another week of incredible television.
With the baby getting bigger it was time to get the nursery ready for him to come home. Jenae’s father, John, came into town to help Tim pull it all together. Most of us would love the help, but Tim would have preferred to not do it at all. Maybe it wasn’t really REAL to him since he hadn’t even held TJ yet, or it is possible as an ex-con he was dreading spending time with John, a former prison guard. Although Tim wanted to hire out for the job, John insisted they put the crib together themselves. He didn’t trust anyone else to be sure it was safe for his grandson. It got a little tense when he mentioned that he never dreamed his daughter would have ended up with someone who had actually done time. Lucky for Tim, John noted that he was trying to stay out of it and trusted his daughter. Once the crib was assembled he headed off to work knowing that there was so much more to do. When he got back, Tim and John began painting and Tim finally began to see the significance of preparing his son’s room. It was a great bonding experience for them both….allowing them to have some family time together. John was willing to be there as support. For once, Tim had a father figure in his life. Feeling closer to John, Tim admitted Jenae wanted them to get counseling. I am certain John got a little nervous about what was to come. When Tim shared that it was regarding his fears of holding the baby, John seemed to give him the nudge he needed. There was nothing to fear.
Looking to up his game at work, Charles approached Dee for a little advice. Pulling in close to $300 in tips compared to Charles $40, he hoped to learn a few pointers. Coming off a week without pay and armed with a few customer service tricks, Charles was determined to make a little money. In the meantime, he got his aunt to agree to give Jazzmin a second chance. Despite a new attitude, she was 15 minutes late on her first day. Shockingly Charles seemed to be doing a great job and actually working! Hopefully it will see that hard works pays off. He was arriving early, not complaining and really working. The suspension was exactly what he needed. Maybe all it took was someone seeing him as an adult for him to start acting like one. Regardless, it was great to see Charles creating a better life for himself.
Jazzmin was ready to start over and hopeful as well. She worked up the courage to ask Miss Robbie for vocal lessons. Her goal – to become a wedding singer and make “bank”. Of course Robbie agreed to help her. I can’t imagine her turning down any request for help. She may act tough, but she is a sweetie pie! I was so pleased that Jazzmin asked because it gave all of us the opportunity to hear Robbie sing again. Jazzmin had the voice to make it especially with Robbie as her coach.
Robbie may always give to those who need her, but her heart is with family. Visiting her grandson TJ every day and sometimes more than once, she finally held him for the first time. After a 45 minute grandma/grandson rocking session, it was clear that she would never be the same. Grandma was hooked!
While his mother was falling in love with his son, Tim was getting ready to host some of the children from the Boys and Girls Club for lunch. He had seen them painting a mural across the street the day before and invited them to the restaurant. They had no idea that they were going to get more than a meal. It was Tim’s opportunity to tell them how important it was to stay on the right side of the law. His message was simple and powerful. Despite the numbers (statistics), you can do anything. You don’t have to listen to the numbers. “You dictate your own outcome.” Their possibilities were endless. They weren’t just a number. It was a touching moment and even brought him and Charles a little closer….even hugging it out.
As the episode came to a close, Tim entered his son’s room. TJ was a whopping 3 ½ pounds. After the nurse reassured him he wouldn’t break him, Tim took a quiet moment with no one else around to hold his son. It was their time as father and son. “It makes me feel hopeful” he shared. It was beautiful and a long time coming. I give him 10 minutes and he won’t be able to put him down. That is what love will do to you!
Next week…Sweetie Pie’s helps out a homeless shelter, Jenae finally gets a baby shower and Robbie grills Charles about his life plans. Should be interesting!
