This show starts with Oprah taking us through this quest.  She wants to give someone the opportunity to have their own show…OWN.  The finalist are from everywhere…who do everything… “This competition is about hope….it’s about getting your own show.” 

Here’s the breakdown…10 people.  6 women, 4 men.  Who will be the NEXT OWN TV Host?  Alicia, Terey, Elizabeth, Kristina, Aunt Flora, Leigh, Ryan, Erik, Zach or Dr. Tony.  I’m sure we will learn more about them as we go….right?  

“As a television host, you need to be able to write, produce, do the research….to be great.” Says Oprah.  This is how we are going to do it.  The show is they have been “teamed up” and each week have 1 hour…no really, they have like 24 to 48 hours to get a task done and a segment produced. Each week, we’ll have a mentor come in and be in the process…then part of the deliberation.  Here’s how it goes this week….week 1. 

Dr. Phil joins us a mentor for this week. The topic is sex and relationships. Here we go… 

The Prep….Team Vision (all the girls) – We see Kohl’s gift bags…a sponsor for this show…with yummy stuff and welcome!  So, the women delegate jobs and move it along.  At first glance, they look together….but don’t worry….this quickly unravels.  Insert Dr. Phil…he’s so real.  Lordy….Leigh….you just want to tell her to “just be quiet, stop talking and listen.”  But you can’t because it’s pre-taped.  Anyway, please ladies….to the rest of you… are really listening to her?

Team Focus (all the boys + Alicia) – Right off, there is discussion and a round table.  Dr. Phil comes in and gets right to work.  “What’s your plan?”  Good question Dr. Phil.  With tilted heads, they look at the good doctor.  Ok…they were not together…and they need a plan.   

Both teams go out to throw out their questions….to get the on street presence and video they need for the segment.  A little warm up…and they warm up.  

The Taping…Team Focus – Talking with Dr. Phil, Zack and Eric were fun and light.  “What about technology and sex in a relationship?”  Team Focus was focused and had a great and timely topic.  It made sense and people would WANT to hear about this.  Rehearsal was great…but now to the real taping.  The topic was spot-on and the on camera guys, Ryan and Zach, were great…and totally psyching out the other team.  There seems to be an advantage in going first…at least this week! 

Team Vision – During the rehearsal, the team seems to be making stuff up along the way….Dr. Phil is there trying to offer some guidance.  Can people listen to him?  Please, everyone….stop talking!  “Chaotic….power struggle….arguing….” Dr. Phil notices.  “Oh….please get it together,” you want to scream at the TV.  But we are all civilized…and clearly, that’s not going to happen.  “If you use condoms, it leads to depression…”  That is the question that these ladies have decided to run with.  If you thought that the question would be the downfall, well….just insert Leigh and a bunch of nerves…talking over Dr. Phil….cutting him off.  What?  Dr. Phil said like….what….5 words?  Bye bye Team Vision.  You can see it coming. 

The Elimination….This one is easy but Nancy, Carson and Dr. Phil still talk it out.  Team Focus….you are safe.  Team Vision….pick 2 people to throw in front of the bus today.  And the winners are team leader Elizabeth and on camera Leigh.  In the end….Leigh goes home.  I wonder who is going to win this thing….I just can’t tell….who would I watch…?  Ryan is the front runner for me…but let’s see…
